1935 inscription in
first edition copy of The Case of The Caretaker's Cat to
Venturan Vivian Kemper Bostwick
| An
inscription to Vivian Kemper Bostwick, a Ventura resident and long time
friend of Erle's. Vivian was in some way connected to checking out
books at El Jardin Library located in Downtown Ventura at 451
East Main Street. The library was established in the early 1940's or
earlier. No one seems to know much about this library, except that Erle
seemed to visit it and did inscribe some books to her there. Perhaps
this is one of them. We
have reason to believe it was located in the same suite as we are
occupying here as Phantom Bookshop. Providence? Perhaps. |
This inscription was written in a first edition copy
The Case of The Caretaker's Cat reads:
'To Vivian Kemper Bostwick
With lots of best wishes for a Merry Christmas
and Happy New Year.- Some day, Vivian, the editors will get as much confidence
in my drawing power as you have, - and then I 'll have "arrived"
Yours
Erle Stanley Gardner
Christmas 1935'
