APRIL 2008 GHOSTWATCH NEWSLETTER
The Official Newsletter of Richard and Debbie Senate

APRIL 2008

The coming weeks will see an increase of activity.

The month of April will see a marked increase in activities for both Richard and Debbie. March saw a growth in Mr. Senate’ web site with new podcasts listed and new projects. Much of the credit can be given to Mr. John Anthony Miller. Some of the audio offerings are: The John Anthony Miller Show featuring interviews with both Richard and Debbie, The Casebook of Richard Senate listing several of his most interesting early cases,

True Investigations with two shows, A Night on Char-Man Bridge and The Eyeless Lady of Olivas Adobe.

Also past shows and interview that will soon feature many of the most famous people in the psychic world including an archived interview with the late, great D. Scott Rogo.

Mr. Miller has read dramatic stories by Mr. Senate. These short ghost stories are based on real events. The first story in the series is "Ghost Road" and is a fictionalized account of the many stories of ghosts on Creek Road, Ojai (not far from Mr. Senate’s home). The second one is in production and will be released in a few days. It is my short story "Leave It To Clever." Again, based on a true account taken from a happening at "The Cross" in Ventura, California.

The month of April will see more tours and investigations you can attend. They will be listed in this publication.

Ghostwatch Newsletter March 2006

The official newsletter of Richard Senate

Words from the ghost hunter.

We have at long last returned to Ventura County. It was a hard and difficult move but one that, we hope, will open new opportunities. It is great to be back. We are living in the community of Oak View, eight miles north of Ventura. The town has about five thousand residents and the rural feeling of Thousand Oaks, when I was growing up. I want to thank all of my friends who helped with this move. Richard Senate

New Lecture on Ghosts: March 12.

Mr. Senate will be giving an hour long lecture on the subject of ghosts at the Oxnard Public Library, room B at 2:00. That is a Sunday but he hopes that many of his friends and those interested in the subject of haunted houses will attend. Call the library for more information on this important talk. Much of the lecture will focus on the ghosts of Oxnard and some of Mr. Senate’s upcoming plans.

Many tickets left for the May Tour.

May will see two new tours of the haunted Olivas Adobe in Ventura. This is one of your best chances to see a real ghost around. This tour will take visitors inside the house and conduct experiments on the nature of ghosts. Orbs have been photographed and EVP voices recorded. Seating is limited. Call 805-658-4726 for more data and tickets. Debbie Senate will be assisting in this expedition into the unknown! Mr. Senate will also lead a tour of the old Mission San Buenaventura and a walking tour of the site of the 1838 “Battle of San Buenaventura” in May.

Char-Man The Movie progresses on.

The planned horror film based upon the legend of Char Man is progressing well with the selection of a make-up man to do the important work designing the monster and those killed by the creature. The script is coming along well and plans are still being made to select locations and cast. If you would like to volunteer your business or home as a movie site please contact Mr. Senate. This is a for fun project--but who knows what it may lead to? We are also looking for camera people to help in this project. We are still looking for someone to score the music for the movie.

Quotes:

“Ghosts are just people who happen to be dead.” Richard Senate

Del Sol Publishing to print new book: GHOSTS OF THE HERITAGE VALLEY!

The Heritage Valley (really the Santa Clara River Valley) is rich in ghost lore from Santa Paula to Camulos Adobe. Mr. Senate has outline many of her most famed haunted sites. He has investigated each place from the historic halls of the Glenn Tavern Inn to the Rancho Adobes of the Camulos. This book will cover the many ghosts of Santa Paula, Fillmore, and Piru. It is hoped the book will be out by early Fall or late Summer. Keep watching this newsletter for more data on this project.

Special Tour: The Ghosts of Santa Barbara coming soon.

Mr. Senate is planning on a new tour to old Santa Barbara that will include an investigation of the Mission Santa Barbara. In the past tours have come away with an impressive list of events from phantom pictures to bizarre EVP. The area around the mission is most active with several sites consistently haunted. This tour will offer students a chance to be part of an expedition and feel what its like to do ghost hunting. You will be asked to take part in some of the tasks. The tour is planned for April of 2006 so if you are interested contact this newsletter as soon as possible. There will be a fee of $26 dollars per person, Those who take part must be in good physical condition. Mr. Senate would like those who take this tour to have gone on a ghost hunt in the past with him or another ghost hunter.

New Ghost Spotted in Hollywood!

The Hollywood Forever Cemetery in the film capital is well noted for having her ghosts. A new sighting in the Hall of the Apostles confirms the ghosts are still an active lot. A visitor e-mailed Mr. Senate with the account that she had seen a ghostly woman, dressed all in white gliding along the marble halls. From her hair styles she seems to have been from the 1940s. Her dress was more like a fancy night gown than a true frock and she seemed un interested in the witness. “I just know she was a movie star,” The woman reported. “She had that grace about her.” This cemetery is an ideal place for a spot of ghost hunting. Mr. Senate has been urged by his friends to lead a new tour to this important landmark. If you would like him to take on this challenge please feel free to e-mail him and try to convince him that the Hollywood Cemetery would make a great field trip.

Guard fired for seeing ghosts.

Des Moines. Security Guard Wade Gallegos was fired from his job when he reported seeing ghosts at the site he was guarding. His supervisor went to the site and when he saw nothing, he had Mr. Gallegos fired. There was no sign of drug or alcohol use. They further tried to keep him from getting his unemployment benefits. This prompted Gallegos to hire a lawyer and take the case to court. Judge G. Ken Reneger ruled that seeing ghosts and reporting them to his superiors did not constitute grounds for dismissal and such things were not misconduct. Another victory for our side.

Ghost of Wyatt Earp

On the weekend of May 4 Richard and Debbie stayed at the Historic Horton Grand Inn, located in the gaslight district of San Diego.

The resident ghost is called "Roger" and he hangs out in room 309. The Senate's were not seeking him but another shade that haunts the stairs. A man dressed as a westerner. The Hotel was used by Wyatt Earp, the lawman who fought it out with the Clanton Gang at OK Corral in Tombstone AZ. He lived there for 6 years. Was the phantom the famed lawman or someone else? They encountered the figure in the hat and fancy vest, smelled his sweet cheroot cigar, and Richard, who got too close was pushed down the stairs!  The window of their room was open and closed by unseen hands. Was it Earp? they do not know--but it was supernatural. The place is haunted, well haunted indeed. Have you visited the Horton Grand? Did you encounter one of her ghosts?  If the answer is 'yes' contact Mr. Senate at his e-mail address.

March/April 2007

New ghost link: Ghost Research Society

Special Friday the 13th Tours in April. They say that ghosts walk the earth on the night of Friday the 13th and to challenge this long-held belief Richard Senate is planning a very special first -time late night tour of Ventura's Cemetery Park! Many ghosts have been reported in the old burying grounds where over 2,000 still lie interned in the soil of Ventura. They range from the poor to the richest families in the community. Over the last 100 years many tales list this place as haunted. The ghosts rumored to walk the old cemetery are: a headless man, a Glowing ball of light, a woman in a long white night gown, a woman with a fancy hat, opera gloves & a parasol as well as a phantom dog. If you would like to take part in this unique 90 minute tour call the City of Ventura for tickets, 805-658-4726. Join us for a stroll though the dark cemetery--if you dare!

GHOST HUNT: Glen Tavern Inn

The night of February 25th saw a group descend upon the historic Glen Tavern Inn located in Santa Paula, to investigate the stories of ghosts located in that establishment. They were rewarded with a bevy of bizarre events from orbs photographed to strange recorded sounds. E-Meters detected odd spikes as phantom smells were detected in several rooms. Psychics felt and communicated with some of the many ghosts. The old place once again proved to live up to her haunted reputation. Further investigates are even now in the planning stages.

Gold Coast Ghost Gazette   ia now on the YourHub.com section of the internet. Click on California, City of Oxnard, and look at the list of blogs. Mr. Senate has put up a place where people can share their encounters with the unknown. Future feature will include investigations at the Channel Islands University--the former mental hospital now recycled into a state university--and perhaps one of the most haunted places in the state.

Armagosa Hotel: Ghost Town Ghost Hotel. In the heart of the Mojave Desert is the tiny hamlet of Armagosa and in this near ghost town is an old hotel. The place has no TV or air conditioning but it does have something many others do not--hot and cold running phantoms! At least three ghosts are said to wander the halls of this building. Near the border with Nevada it was recently featured in the TV show “Mind Freak” that is based in Las Vegas. They confirmed the place was haunted and this assumption is further confirmed by many who have visited the site, spent the night, and experienced the specters personally. If anyone would like to travel to this remote location, investigate and report their findings, please pass on their observations to Richard Senate. He would like to investigate this hotel for himself in the future.

Debbie Senate recovering from surgery and her fall. The surgery was a success but right after the treatments she suffered a fall while browsing through an antique store in Ventura. She caught her foot on a chair leg and was thrown forward onto the cement floor. Her knee cap was badly hurt. After some time on crutches, X-rays, and medical help, she is recovering her run of bad luck.

Plans for the Ghost Hunter Convention are moving forward. It will be held on May 11, 12, & 13 at Pierpont Inn, Ventura. The old 1910 craftsman hotel is well known for ghosts and as such an ideal place to search for specters and learn about the world of the paranormal. Set your date for this weekend of learning with more than a few chills and thrills. Mr. Senate is the keynote speaker but Debbie Senate will also be giving a program. There will also be a very special ghost hunt planned for Saturday night. For more data contact GhostTrackers@yahoo.com

Richard Senate's Birthday is April 23. Yes, he is a Taurus, as anyone who has worked with him will testify to his stubbornness, earthy sense of humor and love of fatting foods. He never gives up and this has helped him over the years with his study of the paranormal. "Do I ever get scared?"  he remarks, "Yes, anyone dealing with the unknown would be insane if they didn't get scared. The secret is to not let it show. That's the hard part. Wanting to run but, standing your ground and keeping your head."

DO YOU HAVE A GHOST STORY? If you have had an encounter with a ghost please feel free to contact Mr. Senate. He can answer many questions on the paranormal for you.

GHOSTWATCH NEWSLETTER: The official newsletter of Richard Senate. FEBRUARY 2006

EDITORS NOTE: “”” “’February is now upon us with Valentine’s Day and spring is just around the corner. This is the best time in the year for ghost hunting. The air seems charged with energy. Many of my best sightings have taken place during the months of February. So keep on your toes for orbs in pictures, flashes out of the corner of the eye and blasts of cold air.

Richard Senate, Editor.

HAPPY DEATH DAY: A Ghost hunt for readers. . One of the most haunted places in Ventura County is the historic Olivas Adobe in the city of Ventura. It is located at 4200 Olivas Park Drive. On February 24, 1879, Don Raymundo Olivas died in his adobe home. For many years Mr. Senate has noticed strange things happening at the old place on that day and the seven days closest to that date. There seems a sad pall over the house. In the past, dark shadows were seen in the rooms and one woman had a door close so quickly that it slammed in her face. The Olivas Adobe is an ideal place for a ghost hunt. It is open to the public Saturdays and Sundays from 10 to 4 PM. Pay close attention to the Childs Room and the Parlor as these are places of most activity at this time of the year. Let this newsletter know if you find anything.

Cryptobotany: the search for lost plants.

Everyone knows about the search for Bigfoot and the Loch ness Monster but few know about the related and under publicized science of Cryptobotany--The search for lost or legendary plants. The hunt for the mysterious strangling tree of Madagascar has been un-successful but recently a discovery in Australia found a special pine tree, the Wollemi Pine, thought extinct for two million years. It was a tree found only in fossils before a hiker stumbled upon the thing in a remote valley some 125 miles west of Sydney. These were trees that flourished in the days of the dinosaurs. The trees are now being grown in hot houses and examples can be found in the larger botanic gardens in Australia and Europe. It is, as Professor Chambers of the Royal Society exclaimed: “the equitant of finding a small dinosaur still alive on Earth.”

UPDATE ON Ghost Hunts--The Smail House

The Investigation of the Old Smail House (1862) in Carson City went well. The team arrived at 1:00 in the afternoon and were escorted into the small 19th Century cottage. Several psychics came along including Debbie Senate. Like many of the older homes in Carson City, this house was long rumored to be haunted and after a one hour search the full team came away believing there were at least two ghosts (maybe three) in the building. Two psychics saw things in the parlor and back room. Attempts were made to communicate with the spirit (s) in the place and found the presence of a woman very strong. The present owner confirmed that they felt watched by something in the building and that they had heard footsteps walking in the crawlspace above the rooms. The house should be further investigated in the future. Now used as a costume shop the place is filled with vintage garments and antiques. This makes a psychic investigation all the harder as it add more impressions to peel away. In many ways a haunted place is a bit like an onion--with many layers that must be slowly pulled away by the psychic.

CHAR-MAN: The Movie. Progress.

The Idea of making a video movie about Ojai’s Char-Man Ghost is catching fire as more and more people come forward with suggestions and asking to volunteer for the project. A script is being written and the cast list set. As it’s a movie about high school students encountering the ghost, young people are encouraged to sign up. There is even interest in a Char-Man Play to be performed in October. The play will be set in 1951 and feature both music and dance. So get out your saddle Oxfords and start practicing your bop.

The Battle of San Buenaventura, May 20. 3) Two sessions of the Ghosts of the Olivas Adobe Tours, These nightime tours offer the best chance of encountering a ghost. The last one conducted here caught EVP events as well as orbs. These will be held on May 20. Tickets will go fast. To get your reservations and more information call 805-658-4726.

UPDATE on the Move to Ventura.

Mr. and Mrs. Senate have received an offer on their Carson City home and hope to move back to Ventura mid February with the final move in March. They have found a permanent home in Oak View, a small town eight miles north of Ventura. The house they are buying is a three bedroom, two bath home known by locals as “the haunted house.” A phantom woman is said to haunt the building but this doesn’t bother the Senates in the least. They want to thank their many friends who helped in finding just the right place. They wanted to live in Oak View because it is away from the coastal fogs of Ventura. They got their wish. Mr. Senate will continue to lecture and offer tours in the Ventura area as well as explore new directions in media. Debbie is looking forward to returning to KHAY Radio and offering her popular “Dear Debbie” Column as well as continue her work as a psychic.

Psychic Search for Hitler’s Atomic Bomb.

Did the Nazi dictator somehow manage to make an atomic bomb in the final weeks of the Second World War? Strangely enough there is some evidence that a small group of his scientist did make and test such a terrible weapon. The final destination of the bomb is known, the German leaders were not shy about this. The target was to be New York City. It is a controversial question and one that lends itself to psychic investigation. If you would like to be part of a team to investigate this question--using psychic, non-traditional means, contact Mr. Senate. We need psychics, gifted laymen and World War Two historians to take part in this question. Those who take part will be asked to research questions related to this project and use psychic means to gather answers. Tools needed will be anything from dowsing rods to plum bobs. If any wish to take this father with a trip to Germany itself that would be good--but you must pay your own way! Be warned, psychic searches can take people, mentally at least, back in time to the horrors of Nazi Germany!

A New Poll by--Guess Who? The Skeptical Dogmaists themselves!

It seems that the Skeptical Inquirer Magazine, that declared enemy of all psychic research, commissioned a poll recently. They were amazed that their brand of dogmatism was refuted by young people with a college education. In the poll 56% believed In psychic healing, 40% believed that houses could be haunted and 39% believed in ghosts of the dead. Other topics in the poll indicated 17% believed in Astrology, 14% believed in Reincarnation and 26% believed in witches and witchcraft. One interesting feature covered by the poll is that fully 40% believed that people could be possessed by the devil. It seems with more education people become more open to the subject of the paranormal. Further proof that our side is winning the battle for public acceptance.

The Tenth Planet?

The scientific community was surprised by the discovery of a tenth planet out beyond the orbit of Pluto. Very little about this new planet has found its way into the press of late save for the discovery that this new world has a small moon. There has been no name officially selected for this new body but, the discovery team has named in Xenia after the popular TV program. The moon was given the name of Gabrilla after Xenia’s talkative side kick. In a strange way this discovery shouldn’t shock anyone. Ancient astrologists going as far back as Babylon always said their were 10 planets (some even said 12). What would you name the new planet? Athena? Hades? Vulcan? Or should they just keep Xenia?

The world’s Largest Ghost Hunt!

Mr. Senate was contacted by e-mail by a ghost hunting group in England. They want to set up the worlds largest ghost hunt for the record books. The date will be Halloween 2006. It is hoped that groups all over the planet will take part investigating haunted sites all at the same time. They have set up several places in the UK and the USA and asked if Mr. Senate could help co-ordinate the events on the West Coast. He has discussed this with the City of Ventura and they have suggested the use of the Olivas Adobe site. He is sure other places all over the state can be found for this record investigation. A site will be needed for San Diego, (the Whaley House or Old Town?) the Central coast (The Santa Maria Inn?) and the San Francisco Bay Area (Alcatraz, the Winchester House or the USS Hornet?) as well as Nevada, (Virginia City perhaps?). Would you like to take part in this historic event or do you have a group that might wish to be listed in the history books? Keep watching this newsletter for updates on this remarkable project. Anything that brings psychic investigation before the public is good. This is a good chance to shine the light of the media on what we do when we visit a haunted site.

January 2006 Happy New Year!

Happy New Year! Once again old man time has ended one year and ushered in another. I for one an happy to see 2005 end. It was a long year. At this time of the year it is good to speculate where we have been and what awaits us for the coming year. Editor Richard Senate

New Poll in Great Britain on Ghosts. Strangely enough, a poll conducted of 2,000 people indicated that more believed in Ghosts than believe in God. 68% said they believed in the existence of ghosts where as only 55% believed in God. Some 12% said they had encountered a ghost themselves. 76% believed in ghosts because of popular television programs like Most Haunted and Dead Famous. This shows the power of the television media in changing public opinion. The Poll also found that 19% believed in the concept of re-incarnation and 26% believed in UFOs as space crafts from other worlds.

Only 4% thought the Lock Ness Monster was real. The goal of psychic research is to gain acceptance to the idea that ghosts are real. It looks as if England is being won over to our side! In contrast a poll conducted in the USA by CBS news, in late October, showed that 48% of Americans believed in ghosts and 22% indicated they had seen what they believe was a ghost (Men 14% & Women 29%).

Ghosts in the Kremlin

The heart of Russian culture and history in the fortress of the Kremlin in Moscow. It is also one of the most haunted places in the world. The most persistent ghost is that of Ivan the Terrible who was seen by the last Czar in 1894. It was taken to be an ill omen foretelling the fall of the last royal family. Another ghost, the Pretender Czar Dmitry always appears on the battlements of the Kremlin when Russia is in danger. He was last seen in August of 1991 the day before the Communist attempt to seize control of the state.

Other ghosts that wander the complex of churches, palaces, halls and towers are the Russian leader Lenin (perhaps bemoaning the fact that he wasn’t buried as he wished but mummified and placed on display), Assassin Fanny Kaplan, and shades from a cemetery. The Kremlin is a interesting place and one well worth a visit. If you go, please keep a look out for ghosts. An article on the ghosts of the Kremlin has been submitted by Mr. Senate to Fate Magazine. Keep an eye open for this interesting look at Russia’s ghosts.

Treasure in the Kremlin

The Kremlin has many treasures from the colorful and bloody history of the Russian State. One of the most interesting tales is that of a lost treasure. If this could ever be found, it would be one of the most important finds of all time. Ivan the Terrible inherited a library of some 400 books from his Grandmother, the cousin of the last Emperor of Byzantium. The books were bound on covers of gold and decorated with jewels. But, their great value is in their text. Many are books that no longer exist. Ivan hid his valuable library someplace in the Kremlin and it is lost to this very day. Stalin did have a team search the place but, for reasons unknown, he abruptly stopped the search in 1930. Had he seen the ghost of Ivan the Terrible? Perhaps psychic gifts can disclose the location of this treasure?

A list of the book titles exists but that’s all.

The Mysterious Sage Ape Cryptozoology is a new science that attempts to find lost or legendary animals (or Cryptos). One such creature is the Sage Ape of Nevada. It is a bit like a scrawny Bigfoot. Mr. Senate has found there seems to be two colonies of the creatures in Northern Nevada. One near Gold Hill and the other near Genoa and Lake Tahoe. The ape seems to exhibit a high level of intelligence that might account for its ability to avoid capture. Mr. Senate has sent his finding to The Haunted Times Magazine and it will be published in a future issue.

Contact the Senate’s.

EXCITING NEW PROJECT! Now in the planning stages is a Movie on the legendary Ojai Valley Ghost “Char-Man.” A long held dream of Mr. Senate is to bring to life this legend and this unique ghost. To bring it to life a team of people are needed. Volunteers are need to serve as actors and camera men. Make-up artists, actors & actresses, special effects people, musicians as well as investors. The goal is a one hour plus video on the legend. As some of the movie will trace the origins of Char-Man, it will be set in the 1950s. Hot Rods, Poodle Skirts, Leather Jackets, as well as original bebop music will be needed. Maybe a theme song “The Ballad of the Char Man” ( sort of like the ‘Flying Purple People eater’) could be written. As much as possible it will be filmed on location in the Ojai Valley. If you have ideas or would like to take part please e-mail Mr. Senate. HaintHunter@aol.com

“If people will go see The Blair Witch Project, I am sure we can make a better movie,” say Mr. Senate. “It will take hard work and lots of help but it should be fun. Who knows? Maybe the real Char Man will show up too!”

Haunted Theater Investigation: DAYTON, NEVADA

A 19th Century building in the historic community of Dayton, Nevada was the site of a recent ghostly investigation by a team that included Mr. Senate and his wife Debbie. The building has long been rumored to have ghosts and it was the goal of the team to confirm or reject the stories. They were shocked by the amount of data collected at the brick building and confirmed that the rumors are true. A ghostly man was encountered by Debbie, who seemed a playful sort. The basement held its own terrors and many felt the presence of Chinese workers. Long ago Dayton was called Chinatown. These spirits seemed linked to the place where they labored as near slaves long ago. Many orbs and strange feelings were located in the spider-filled basement.

Some in the team felt that the place was filled with ghosts. The building was used in the filming of the movie “The Misfits.” We were joined by Reno Psychic Sandra Davis. These are comments from her notes:

Personal note: “It was the most awesome thing I have ever done to date, and I loved each and every minute of it. Even during my intense moments, I loved each second.
I knew I would probably 'see' something because that is what I do, but to feel what I felt was totally amazing! The coldness of the rooms, the spirits grabbing at me, the overwhelming sense of sadness, the discovery of 'seeing' period clothing of the spirits, hearing their voices during interviews or, the 'tisking/huffing,' (sounds) and feeling their very presences.” Clearly, more investigations are needed at this site.

Wanted: Ghostwatchers for investigation!

If you would like to try your hand at some investigations in the Los Angeles area this is your chance. It will cost you a nights stay in a hotel but, for the chance to solve a ghostly riddle it should be well worth the expense. A couple checked into this old hotel and both experience strange events. Cigar Smoke so powerful that it could be seen. Sounds like a party, feelings of fear and terror. The nights were the worst, starting at 2:30 am. If you would like to take on this challenge, e-mail Mr. Senate with your findings. Remember: The Goal of ghost hunting is to collect data and impressions. The Target:

Hotel Claremont, Room 204. 1044 Tiverton Ave. Los Angeles (Westwood)

(310)-208-5957. Your findings will be posted in future issues of this newsletter.

Predictions for the coming year of 2006

By Swami Richard Senate (with some help from Madam Debbie)

Once again I wrap the towel turban on my head and gaze deeply into my crystal ball to see what the future holds for the coming year. What great things await us in the next 12 months? This is a tradition that started when I bought a copy of a supermarket tabloid and read there prediction. I comments to Debbie , my wife, that I could barf better predictions. So, I have entered the lists as a “psychic” predictor. So far I have done rather well, better than the ones in the supermarket tabloids (they have an accuracy rate of about 3%) I do slightly better. So here goes, my bold predictions for the coming year!

1. Mr. Bush will not finish his term in office. He will be gone by 2007. Dick Chaney will be the next President of the US of A. In a surprise move he will pick a woman to be his VP.

2. Hillary Clinton will win re-election to her Senate seat in a landslide even as scandal hovers over Bill.

3. Steven Spielberg will win the Oscar for best director for his movie on the Middle East.

4. The Patriots will, once again, win the Super Bowl.

5. A Bombing attack that will include warplanes and rockets will take out Iran’s nuclear plants in forty minutes. The attack will be a joint venture with Israel but the US part may well be hidden.  I see a great World wide furor over this but, many nations will be pleased with the results.

6. The Yankees will win the World Series in six games.

7. Teddy Kennedy will sufferer a massive stroke and go into the hospital. He will recover but be forced to leave his Senate seat.

8. In the coming elections the GOP will lose control of the Senate but keep a razor thin majority in the House. This will be seen as a defeat for Bush/Chaney.

9. Judge Alito will be confirmed to the Supreme Court. But before the year ended , another seat will open as a member is forced into retirement by ill health.

10. Howard Dean will be forced to retire from the head of the DNC by April.

11. More summer riots in France starting in July. This will stimulate right wing reactions that will influence French politics for years to come. The burning of a mosque will start the new wake of attacks.

12. Rudy Guilliani will fast become the front runner in the 2008 presidential elections as Hillary steps aside due to scandals.

13. China will in a surprise move, invade North Korea to depose of a tyrant and place a new moderate leader in charge of that troubled land.

14. In Mid 2006 China will launch an aircraft carrier as part of a naval build up. This will stimulate Japan to consider building up their navy as well.

15. Ex-president Gerald Ford will suffer a heart condition and pass away in early 2006. His funeral will be watched by the nation and even be threatened by terrorists.

16. Osama will be tracked down to the nation of Yemen but slip away before he can be captured.

17. A conflict will almost break out with Syria but, UN action will keep this from becoming a new war.

18. Canada will do well in the coming winter Olympic games bringing home the gold in hockey. The US of A will not do that good in the Olympics at Turin.

19. The US economy will slow to a crawl by mid year. With higher unemployment. Building will slow as prices rise in new homes and large goods.

20. Castro will step down from power in Cuba for reasons of health. His brother will rule in his place until a popular revolt will topple the Communists from government. 2007 will see free elections in Cuba. Castro will flee to Spain where he will pass away in 2008.

21. Conservatives will take control of Great Briton in a new round of elections. Once in power the Tories will remove English troops from Iraq.

22. Saddam Hussein will be sentenced to death and face a firing squad by July. He and five others will face death for their crimes against the people of Iraq. Many in Europe will be unhappy with this move and there will be resentment in the Arab world towards the US.

23. Famine and social unrest will hit the African nation of Zimbabwe. South African Troops will be forced to step in after thousands of refugees cross the border. Summer months will see all the world looking at the tragedy in Zimbabwe.

24. Mark Warner, the former Governor of Virginia will cast his hat in the ring for President and surprise many with his ability to draw supporters from both sides of the Mason-Dixon Line. He will replace Rudy Guilliani as front runner after New Hampshire Primary.

25. General Wesley Clark will once again be in the news as he faces a personal tragedy in his life. This will re-start his own political ambitions and lead him to once again run for President. He will be tapped for VP in the 2008 election.

For Ventura/South California

A. The winter will be a mild one with little flooding and mild rains.

B. A new problem will force Oxnard and Ventura to cut spending on some major projects by mid year.

C. A new oil field will be located off the coast of California that will re-open the controversy on drilling.

D. A fire will destroy a local landmark in June.

E. The president will visit Military bases in Ventura County in late 2006.

F. Richard Senate will return to Ventura.

WORDS FROM THE  EDITOR

The Hollywood shoot for the British Television Program DEAD FAMOUS LIVE is done.

Debbie and I got to investigate several sites closed to the public for the show. Yes, we did find ghosts too--far too many so it seems. We were joined by psychic Chris Fleming and host Gail Porter as we toured the 1930 Los Angeles Theater (a decaying movie palace), the Culver Studios (The silent Ince Studios), and lastly Hollywood High School where so many stars went to school and got their big breaks. In the process we managed to contact several stars including Vivian Leigh, and the almost forgotten silent vamp, Jacqueline Logan. We solved the mystery of the murder of Tomas Ince (Hearst didn’t shoot him--it was an accident) and got to work with some of the greatest paranormal experts on the west coast. Debbie and I were most impressed with Tom and Lisa Butler, EVP experts. We found the most active site to be the Old Hollywood High School with ghostly manifestations in the boys locker room and the old library. It was a great experience but, a great deal of work. It is hoped that the show will run in some form on the Biography Channel in the USA. Richard Senate

Olivas Adobe Psychic Events

On Halloween night special tours were conducted at the historic Olivas Adobe in Ventura California. The tours were lead by Debbie and Richard Senate and more than a few felt and saw strange things happen that night. One man felt something pull his jacket, another photographed a glowing orange mass in a doorway where a ghost girl has been seen in the past. The most striking event is a sound captured by a video camera in the little girls room. The sound it that of giggling children. There was nothing like that happening in that room at the time. This retro cognitive sound may well be a psychic echo from another era. It is hoped that the sound can be posted on Mr. Senate’s web site so that everyone present that night can listen and try to solve the mystery. Was it a ghost? Based on this new evidence it is hoped that new investigations can be mounted at this site.

Olivas Adobe should be recognized as Most Haunted

The findings at the historic Olivas Adobe indicate that this 1847 adobe ranch house is one of the most active haunted locations in the golden state. As such Mr. Senate believes that it should be recognized by the state government as an official haunted house. This has been done for the Winchester Mystery House in San Jose and the Whaley House in Old Town San Diego. He feels that the Olivas has more ghosts than both sites together! If you agree, e-mail your state senator, representative, and the office of the Governor to request that this important site be so designated. E-mails should be directed to the City of Ventura as well. Such listings help in the quest to gain public acceptance to the concept that ghosts do, in fact, exist. Here is a cause worth the effort. If you should take up this effort, let Mr. Senate know so he can help.

Can you help Debbie and Richard Senate find a home?

Mr. Senate and his family are planning to return to the Ventura Area in the near future. Their house in Carson City, Nevada, is up for sale and they are looking forward to returning to their old friends in Ventura. As you know, housing costs are staggeringly high in this market. Ideally they would like an old Victorian or Craftsman house but, they recognize that they can not afford such a place at this time. Ideally they would like to move into the mid-town Ventura area in a house rather than a condo.

It should have three bedrooms and at least one and a half baths. They can afford no more than $500,000 dollars. This has limited their search. It may well be that they will need to rent a house for a time until they are fully established. So rentals are also something they are looking into. If you can give them any help, please e-mail Richard Senate at HaintHunter@aol.com

Investigation at St Mary’s Art Center, Virginia City, Nevada.

Virginia City is a sort of Disneyland for Ghost Hunters and the E-Ticket ride must be the old St. Mary’s Hospital (now an art center). It has more active ghosts than most of the other places in the gold and silver rush town put together. Debbie and Richard took a team to the site and investigated the whole place from attic to basement. Many of the team got pictures of orbs, EVP was recorded, most felt the icy cold and the dreaded feeling linked to ghosts. Debbie was in her element here and contacted several ghosts. She even managed to solve the mystery of the “White Nun.”

The most persistent ghost is a lady in a white dress who wanders the place. She has been dubbed ‘The White Nun” by witnesses. Those who have been lucky enough to see the apparition do not describe the unique habit worn by the nuns of the order that ran the hospital in the latter 19th Century. Debbie solved the mystery by asking the ghost herself. She isn’t a nun. She is a volunteer nurse and that is why the dress is wrong. The caretaker confirmed that many volunteer nurses worked at the hospital at that time and they might well have worn clothing like those attributing to the white nun. This might also explain why she is seen near peoples beds as they sleep at the center. The ghost is still tending to her patients. Richard asked if she took their temperatures or if she used a rectal thermometer. At which Debbie almost hit him over the head with his dowsing rods. It is hoped that Debbie and Richard can spend a night at the Center before they move south and gain more insights on the place.

Article by Richard Senate to appear in Haunted Times Magazine.

The Haunted Times Magazine will publish an article by Richard Senate in an upcoming issue. The article will be on roadside monuments and the controversy around them. Some states are banning these memorials to the dead and having them removed as eyesores. The article goes into the reasons why these memorials are placed and the good they serve to the living and the dead. You may wish to subscribe to Haunted Times. Some Recommended Books suggested by Richard Senate

Books are very important to anyone involved with the study of the paranormal. Every good ghost hunter needs a working library of books to refer to and use in this subject. The Haunted Barn of the Carson Valley
By Richard Senate

The place stands on a remote farm today.   It isn't marked on any map nor does the site have a marker of any sort to let the passing parade of traffic know that this isn't just any barn.  This place once knew violence and death  and some believe that it is scarred by the blood of those who ended their lives here.   Few passing today could imagine that this farm was once the site of a community, a town of sorts that never grew.    It was on a major road at the time and even boasted a hotel and saloon.   These places are gone now and all that remains of the hotel is a basement--now under the barn.     The Cotton Hotel was well known throughout the Carson Valley and the small community that grew around it was called Fairview.  But, for some reason the place seemed to attract the worst sort.  In the early days of Nevada history a brutal gang held sway here. They were called the border ruffians and no one was safe from their wrath.   It is said that a burley mountain man came to the hotel long ago. His name is unknown  to us but he was called old Sawtooth.   It was rumored that he, and he alone, knew the location of Snowshoe Thompson's lost mine.   It is said that he worked the ledge of gold above Genoa and kept it hidden. From time to time he came to town to buy whiskey and supplies. These he paid for with gold nuggets from his mine.   The Border Ruffians tried to follow him back and learn the location of his diggings but, the old mountain man was too smart in the ways of the wild for them and they never discovered the mine, it is still lost to this very day.    When he came to town again old Sawtooth was murdered for the gold in his pockets. Some say they tried to force  him to tell the location of the mine and he died under an awful red-hot bowie knife.   They took the body to the  basement, and buried it under the bags of potatoes.   They say that the body of old Sawtooth is still there,  in the earthen floor of the basement.     But the murder of the mountain man isn't the only tragedy to mar the site. Years later another infamous man rode his horse to Fairview. His name was Sam Brown and he had quite a reputation in the area.  He was a gunfighter who killed a man at an early age.  Everyone feared the boastful and savage brute.   To speak a word against him was to invite your destruction.   He had killed eleven men and, so they say, he was looking to make it an even dozen.   He was drinking at a Carson City saloon boasting that he would kill one of the local farmers for the crime of loaning a pistol to an enemy of the gunman.   A local man overheard the boast of Sam Brown and ran off to warn the intended victim.   But  Brown had overlooked the character of the farmer.   He didn't run, he loaded his shot gun and went after him.   He knew Sam Brown and when he saw him at the barn  he unloaded both barrels into the man's chest, ending any threat to his family or person forever.  As it was in the west, no one condemned his action.  Facing a mad-dog killer like Brown on the street would have been  foolish.  They took the body down the steps to the basement of the Cotton Hotel  and placed it next to the potatoes.   In time they would take the body to Genoa where the man who lived by the gun, died by the gun., was buried.     In time the hotel burned to the ground and the town that never grew vanished from the maps.  A farmer built a barn here, using the old basement.   It was not long before people told of ghosts there in that barn . They remembered to tales of Sawtooth and Sam Brown. They say their ghosts haunt the place.  It seems they don't like each other, these ghosts of yore.  The gunfighter and the mountain man throw potatoes at each other and move things in the night. Woe to any who come into that basement when they are angry at one another.  Is it a legend?  Who knows, but a local farmer once said he knew the place was haunted because he felt himself picked up and thrown by an invisible spirit.  Was it the burly Sawtooth or the murderous Sam Brown? He didn't know.   The barn should be examined for any clues or bones. Perhaps if the body of Sawtooth could be found, and given a decent Christian burial his ghost would rest at long last.

13 Places Mr. Senate would love to investigate:

 1.  The White House in Washington DC. I would love to spend a night in the Lincoln Bedroom and try to communicate with the 16th President.  Many have seen and heard him in that historic chamber.

2. Falcon's Lair, in Beverly Hills, the former home of Rudolph Valentino. I would love to hold a séance in the room where the silent heart throb once conducted séances in 1925. Richard's aunt once spent a chilling night in the house back in 1930 and saw the ghost of Valentino.

3. Castle Dracula, Transylvania, Romania. There is something about Vlad the Impaler that captures the imagination. To spend a night in the ruined castle would be a lifelong dream.

4.  Longleat House, Bath, UK.  Here a ghostly woman walks the halls. I would love to spend a sleepless night in the haunted gallery looking for the green lady.  Once I almost got my wish to visit the place. Sadly, the owner wasn't able to meet with him.

5. Little Round Top, Gettysburg , PA.  The three day Civil War Battle took many lives. One Union Soldier who fell was a relation of mine. Strangely enough, a Confederate soldier related to my wife ,Debbie, also fell at Gettysburg.  To spend a night at Little Round Top and tour the place so well known for ghosts would be one of my fondest dreams.

6. Fort Warren, Boston, Mass.  The Fort is haunted by a lady convicted of being a spy during the Civil War. Many have seen ghosts here.  It is said that Edgar Allen Poe served here once and that his ghost may well haunt. To stand on the old battlements at dawn would be a treat--as would seeing the ghost lady.

7.  Heber Castle, Sussex, UK.  Here Anne Boleyn is said to walk on moonless nights.  Yes, castles seem to hold a special place for all ghost hunters. For me Heber Castle would be my ideal. Here Anne Boleyn, Henry VIII's second wife wanders with or without her head. I would watch from a tower and see if the queen of all English ghosts makes an appearance.

8.  Hitler's Bunker, Berlin, Germany.  The place where the Nazi dictator took his own life must be haunted--at least that's what I believe.  I would bet that the old bunker is haunted because of all the deaths that took places there at the end of the war.  If evil exists it must linger there. To spend a night at that place would be both scary and exciting.

9.  The Fortress of King Henry, Cap Haitian. Haiti.  The fort high on a hill was a man-killer built for the cruel king of the island nation. Prisoners and enemies of the tyrant were worked to death to build the place. It is an extremely haunted place. One ghost is that of the fat king himself. Seeing the moonlight from the walls of that old fort at Cap Haitian would be a real dream. If any place is haunted it would be.

10. Abu Simbal, Temple, Aswan, Egypt.  This temple is rumored to hold several spirits that date back to Ancient Egypt.  A night there would be grand--but I would not want to be there alone!

11.  Lincoln's Tomb, Springfield Ill.  Many have heard Lincoln walking the pavement before the tomb. I believe that the ghost isn't Abraham but that of his son, Robert. I would like to find out who haunts this place.

12.  El Moro, Habana Harbor, Cuba. The old Spanish fort has long been rumored to hold ghosts. Once used to house prisoners of Castro's Cuba, its ghostly population may have grown over the years. The Moro in Havana has ghosts, so I am told. I would love to spend a night touring the place where so many died over the centuries.

13.  Ground Zero, New York City, USA.  Where the two towers fell taking so many innocent lives.  Yes, I have heard the stories that the place called ground zero is haunted. I would love to spend a night at the footprint to the two great towers. I believe there will be something there and maybe I can help them.

The Ghosts of The Genoa  Courthouse

They were waiting for me under the shade of the long porch of the 1863 building.  They had wide, curious eyes of those who undertake a ghost hunt at a place long said to be haunted.  I parked the car and walked out into the hot June day glad that the students from my ghost and haunted house class had found the destination, not that it was hard to find in a community as small as Genoa.   Some had cameras, others tape recorders and I had with me my full bag of tools I use in any ghost hunt. This afternoon I was assisted by my daughter, Megan.   As two of the group were late I started to tell them something of the planned investigations and some of the tools I was to use. I showed them the Cyber-Probe unit that could detect static electrical fields and the theory behind this unit.  I turned it on only to find the battery was completely dead. Many times this happens on ghost hunts--batteries become dead--even new ones.   I showed them The  Electro-magnetic field detector as well, it was working fine.   I also brought out my dowsing rods, two pure copper rods a yard long. These have served me in some of my most important cases over the years.  As the last of the group arrive we went into the museum to tour the place and see if we could detect the presence of ghosts or other supernatural forces.   We were greeted by a tour guide who lead us though the many rooms and exhibits in the old building.  Our first stop was the courtroom set with a dummy of a judge behind the bar. A painting of George Washington behind him.  As the group watched I knew that ghosts were felt here because I had visited weeks before with a psychic. She had felt something persistent and cold in the jail section of the courthouse but nothing else.
I asked about the rumors of a ghost on the second floor. The story indicated that the phantom was the restless spirit of Lillie Virgin, the daughter of Judge Virgin and the originator  of the Candy Dance fundraiser put on by the town every year.   "Oh that's just a story," the guide told us with a smile. "It was sort of a joke. Someone left the light on in one of the rooms on the second floor--It was during the Candy Dance and so everyone thought it must be Lillian's ghost. But, its just a joke."    We toured the Snowshoe Thompson Room and the Pony Express display before going down to the old jail.  It was cooler here and there was a heavy feeling to the place.  For some reason jails seem to always have ghosts. Maybe it's the negative energy they hold. It was here that we began our experiments.  We were using dowsing rods to locate a "Hot Spot". a place where they might be ghosts present. One of the team caught something but when we tried to develop a code to talk to the presence, it seem to refuse. Another, Ms. Robin Christy, took the rods. She hadn't tried dowsing before and was shocked when the  rods crossed. This time a simple code was set up so we could ask yes or no questions.

"Do you wish to talk with us?"
 "Yes."
"Are you a Washoe Indian?"
The rods crossed "yes."
"Were you killed?"
"Yes."
"Can you see us?"
The rods slowly crossed  "yes."
"Can you appear for us?"
"Yes."

We watched and watched, cameras snapped and videotape rolled but we saw nothing out of the ordinary.  The air seemed to grow colder now.

"Can you make a sound?" Robin asked.
The rods slowly went to "Yes."

Just as they crossed a strange high pitched noise echoed softly over the chamber. I looked towards Megan who was holding the bag that held the ghost hunting tools. She reached in--it was the Cyber-Probe devise --the one with the dead battery!  It was going off, lights flashing!  What had we communicated with?  Was it the ghost of a long dead Washoe Native American or what?  The batter was dead and now it seemed alive. I had left it turned off--yet, now it was on.   This and the feeling of coldness confirmed that the jail area of the courthouse was indeed haunted.  We thanked the ghost and left the museum where the past and the present co-exist in a symbiotic relationship.

The Ghostly residents of the Pink House

The building is one of the oldest in the state of Nevada.  It is now located in the heart of Genoa.  It can't be missed because it is painted a bright pink color with white trim.  But, if sightings are to be believed, it is haunted by echoes of the past.  Over and over, the cause behind a ghost can be traced to tragedy. The worst tragedy imaginable in that of violence and murder. Such thing leave an indelible stain upon the psychic framework of a site.   Here, the horror of a senseless death marks the house--remarkably its not even a murder that took place here.  \The home was built by Mormon pioneer Col. Reese and moved to this location. For many years it was the home of Judge Virgin and that might be the reason the ghost, or ghosts are present.

The tragedy took place in March of 1859.  Elzy Knott was an important man in the small town of Genoa. He was tall, handsome and absolutely fearless. At 27 he had married just seven months before and his young wife, Mary, was expecting their first child. Mr. Knott liked to play cards and this would start a chain of events that would end in murder and death.
There was a seventeen year old Mormon boy named John Hern in town and he was fascinated by the card games forbidden by the tenants of his church.  Elzy lured him into a card game and the stakes grew higher and higher. One hand looked like a sure thing and when John was unable to raise the call, he put up his bridle to cover the wager. Mr. Knott's hand was better and the boy lost his bridle.  Mr. Knott took the bridle and later gave it to one of his workers to use. When the man came into town, the boy recognized the thing and took it off the horse, telling witnesses the card game was rigged and he wanted back his property.  When word of this reached Elzy, he grew white hot with anger and, taking a couple of his men, and his father Tom to "insure the peace" he when to the boys house in town.

The boy's mother tried to defuse the situation to no avail.  She warned him that her son was armed and had vowed to kill the first  to come in the door. But, Elzy was angry and wouldn't listen to the woman's pleas . He knocked her down and burst into the house believing his bravado would win the day. The boy was waiting with a horse pistol and fired at close range right into Mr. Knott's face.   The ball entered at the left cheek and exited the back of the skull taking with it the left eye and a section of the brain.  Death was almost instantaneous. The boy ran out of the house and up the hills behind the town. One of Mr. Knott's friends fired a few shots at him but missed. Mary Knott heard the gun shots and ran to find her husband's body. She held his shatter head in tears, his wound was so bad she cut her hand on a sharp sliver of bone protruding from his face.

The boy was caught and charged with murder.  Unfortunately, the local judge had not received his paper work that would make him legally qualified to try the case, so a committee was formed to hear the case. A local hotel was used as a make shift courtroom and a jury of 12 selected.  Thomas Knott  wanted the boy hung but the jury saw things in a different way. Sadly, the jury was made up of a majority of Mormons that lead some to suspect that they outcome might be tainted.   Because Mr. Knott had barged in to the house, yelling and such, the crime was seem as "self defense" and the jury came in with a verdict of not guilty!  The non-Mormons were outraged. Most believed that it should have been manslaughter and deserved at least a few years in prison.

Thomas Knott had his son buried outside the local cemetery not wanting his body resting anywhere near the Mormons. He called the death an assassination.   The boy moved on in time and Elza widow had her daughter and married another man.  So much is history, grim and terrible but history as it was.

The present tenant of the Pink House moved in four years ago. Almost at once she came to thing the house was haunted. She would hear footsteps on the stairs when there was no one home. Once she heard the chimes of a door bell ring and rushed to see who it was before she remember--she didn't have a modern electric doorbell!  It was only when her brother-in-law came for a visit that the story of the 1859 murder was pulled out of the dusty pages of history into the present.  Her brother-in-law is 6'5'' and weighs in at 280 pounds. No shrinking violet he would be the last to make up a ghost story.

He was sleeping on a sofa in the study when he woke up and saw a man come towards him out of the darkness. The man stood there and said these odd words: "You know I was Shanghaied!"  The witness remembered the statement but he was focused on the mans face. He said that there was anger in the man's voice and the veins in his neck stood out. But, what really arrested his attention was the man's face--the left half was a bloody mess. The apparition had only half of a face!

The interesting part of the story is the use of the word "Shanghaied." another term "bushwhacked" was not in common use at the time--It would not come into common speech until  the Civil War.  Shanghaied would have been an acceptable term in 1859 to describe a surprise shooting or attack.

The study was once Judge Virgin's office leading us to suspect that Mr. Knott was seeking justice beyond the transition called death.
The team next went up to the second floor apartment and attempted to communicate with the spirit.  Dowsing rods were once again employed but few responses were made and by all accounts it seemed that we were talking with Judge Virgin who died in the house at the age of 93.   The resident told of pranks the ghosts did and the sounds of small children in the place. These may well be the memories of the house or other sounds mistakenly attributed to ghosts .

One of the team Ms.  Cathy ___________ did encounter something in the kitchen of the place. A psychic with gifts of communication managed to connect with a spirit. It wasn't the old respected judge, nor was it the unhappy shade of Elzy Knott.  She was surprised to learn it was the spirit of John Hern!   He was there to tell his side of the story. The card game, he thought was rigged, he had to defend himself from the mad rush of Mr. Knott. There was no remorse for his act of murder. He felt he was justified in his actions.  If he felt this way, why had the ghost returned at all? Could he have deeply held guilt over the terrible death of Elzy Knott?

Did he want his story placed on the record?   The group came away convinced that the old Pink House was indeed haunted with many ghosts and one awful tragedy.

The Haunted Hanging Tree

The wind came up, cold and dreary this spring day.  We had gathered to visit the old hanging tree in Genoa. Here Adam Uber met death at the end of a rope.   Just down the lane from Genoa this tree is now marked with a sign as the infamous place of a terrible lynching.   As we walked down the road, it was strangely quite. As we drew near, we saw three dead birds on the ground. Perhaps it was a co-incidence that the birds were there--but--I don't believe in co-incidence!

The tree stood tall, as tall as it must have been in 1898 when a howling mob broke Adam out of the jail at the Genoa courthouse and pulled him to this tree. One limbs sprouts out at an ominous angle, a perfect place to throw a rope.   Adam was a drifter who came into the area and, as a stranger, he was distrusted. The story goes that he went into a small saloon in Millersville (a hamlet between Minden and Gardnerville now absorbed  by the two growing towns).   In a bar he was approached by popular teamster Hans Anderson , who offered to buy him a drink. Adam refused the offer, an insulting breach of the Old Code of the West.

When Hans pressed him several times, Adam who was drunk himself, shot him dead.    He was held at the Genoa court house when an angry mob of twenty drunken men attacked the place. They say it was lead by Mr. Anderson's Teamster friends, a rough and tumble group if ever there was one.   Not that the locals were in the mood to defend an admitted killer.  Sheriff Brockless and constable Gray were held at gunpoint as they pulled the screaming Mr. Uber  from the jail.

The mob  took him out of town, to a tall cottonwood  tree.

He was ordered to say his prayers so Adam went down on his knees. After a time they places the noose around his neck and, while he was still on his knees, they jerked him up into the air.  He twisted and turned at the end of the rope, slowly strangling to death.  One of the mob drew his pistol and fired into the man, others joined in shooting the dying man. If it was done as a mercy to end his slow strangulation or out of spite, we shall never know.  This was frontier justice in its most raw state.    The local law enforcement tried to discover the names of the lynch mob, with a reward of $500 for any names of those who took part in the hanging, but to no avail.

But justice exists in many places besides a courtroom.   One by one members of the mob suffered un-explained injuries and family tragedies. Some happen while they were passing near the old hanging tree.  One leader of the mob had his horses spook as he passed by the tree--his wagon overturned and his leg was crush and had to be amputated. Another member went mad and ended his days in an asylum.  One took poison and another blew his own head off with a shotgun.

While investigating the historic jail in Genoa my daughter Megan had a strange vision.  To better understand the odd encounter I will let her tell the story in her own words:

"I was standing by the haunted jail cell.  I was only half paying attention
to the tour guide's talk when I felt this cold wind come out of the cell.
I  turned my head quickly to look into the cell.  For a split second
I  saw a man wearing a long sleeved white shirt, he had a skin toned
face, his skin was very pale, and his hair was blond.  I didn't see
the bottom half of him.  It was like a blur. I got a really big chill and
I walked away and stood in another part of the room."

Could this have been the shade of Adam Uber, re-enacting his terrible last
few minutes of life?  The clothing seems to match the outfit worm by Adam as he faced death at the hands of the vigilantes.

As the group gathered at the infamous spot we noticed that a hive of bees had found residence in the hanging tree.   The bees were affected by the wind and in time they sought refuge inside the hive.   We tried the dowsing rods once again in an attempt to communicate with the ghost.  We found a place where the rods crossed, near the truck of the tree. We asked a number of standard questions.   We asked if it was the spirit of Adam Uber--the rods marked  'yes.'   We asked the ghost to give us a sign. It said 'yes.'

As we were watching, the bees came streaming out of the hive in the tree.   Was this a sign that the ghost was present?    We chose to leave the site as the bees swirled around us .   There seems something uneasy about the spot. But, the presence of the bees was enough to cancel investigations we had planned.
We moved on convinced the place was haunted--but by what? Who knows?

TWO SHORT STORIES sent to Richard Senate

Good afternoon,

Being a skeptic for the most part, here are two quick stories that lead me to wonder....

First one: As kids, around 12 years old or so, my sister and I got a Ouija board. We went upstairs to her room with a friend of ours to try it. The cat was curled up on the bed. We pulled down the shade and the room was pitch dark.

The three of us agreed not to fake anything, as we were all genuinely curious. "Is there a spirit present?" we asked in our minds as we sat on the floor around the board, and after a few minutes the planchette began to move a bit.

At that very moment, we heard the cat hiss. We immediately turned on the light, and the cat was no longer on the bed; she was by the door, clearly agitated and wanting to go out. We put the Ouija board under the couch and never touched it after that.

Second story: Yesterday, I was spending time with my cousins, who had just moved across town after two years in their apartment. They had been broken into twice and had a meddling landlady, and finally they became fed up.

Turns out they had also been experiencing strange, disconcerting things. For example, during the night, they'd feel the bed vibrating as if somebody were kicking the boxspring very hard. At first they used to think it was the other one moving....until they each experienced this while alone in bed.

Objects would move about inexplicably- it was here a minute ago, then seem to disappear, then re-appear in the same spot. The cat hated to eat alone- her food was located next to the basement door, and she frequently looked toward the door while eating.

My cousin admitted that while standing in the kitchen on two occasions, he turned around and noticed an old man looking over his shoulder as he descended the basement steps. It was just a brief glimpse, but my cousin is certain that he saw this.

A dentist used to work out of that space, and died under mysterious circumstances sometime in the 1970s.

Do you know where we would begin in learning more about this person? Also, does using a Ouija board (properly) necessarily mean trouble for the living?? Is it possible to contact specific people, such as the dentist that lived in the old apartment?

Oh yes, and levitation: My friends and I were able to successfully levitate each other during a sleepover as girls. Was this in fact another way of conjuring spirits?

Thank you in advance for any feedback you're able to offer.

Sincerely,

Christine

The Return of Richard Senate!

Come and experience the thrill of a Senate Ghost Tour. On May 7, 2005. Mr. Senate will return to Ventura to offer a tour of Haunted Downtown Ventura. This is a unique tour and one that will be offered once and once only!  He will be joined by his wife, and psychic, Debbie Christenson Senate.  Known locally for her column "Dear Debbie" and her many speaking engagements.  Her psychic gifts will enhance this tour and make it an experience of a lifetime. (Ms Senate will be speaking on Mediumship at the International Conference on the Queen Mary in September).    The tour will cover the ghosts of the Victorian Rose, The Old Mission San Buenaventura as well as historic Inns and hotels.  This is a two hour journey into the world of the paranormal.  There are still some tickets left for this chance to hear one of the leading ghost hunters in the nation.   This is a chance to have Mr. Senate answer your questions, sign his books and hear his many accounts of investigations.  This is not a tour for the faint of heart. The murder of Sylvia is a shocking unsolved crime that left a psychic scar upon the place where she died. Her ghost wanders today and has been seen and felt by dozens over the years!  Who knows? Maybe Sylvia will join the tour as well--such things happen when Debbie and Richard work together!

For tickets contact the Phantom Bookshop at phantom@phantoms.com  as soon as possible.
The remaining tickets will not last long.

Ventura is a haunted place where ghosts continue to wander the streets and inhabit her many hotels and homes.  The ghosts range from a phantom Monk who drifts through the Old Spanish Mission to the ghost lady who makes the City Hall her home.  The spirits are shadows of other times and reflect past tragedies that linger on.   Over the last 25 years one man has sought out the accounts of these phantom residents. In November of last year Richard Senate left Ventura and took up residence in an equally haunted community, Carson City, Nevada.  But, he has not forgotten Ventura or her many ghosts.

On May 7, 2005 he will return and present one more lecture and tour. This is a unique opportunity to hear his many stories of the unknown and learn of Ventura's haunted heritage.  The tour will include many new stories of the paranormal as well as his accounts of dramatic investigations.   As an added bonus he will be joined on the three hour tour by his wife, Debbie Christenson Senate.  A gifted psychic she is best known in Ventura County for her long-running column "Dear Debbie" where she used her psychic ability to answer peoples many personal questions.  She will give her impressions of haunted places and answer questions for those on the tour.    The tour will offer a spine-tingling examination of the city of Ventura and her many haunted places. It will also provide an chance to ask Mr. Senate questions and sign his many books on the subject of the supernatural. Recognized as a pioneer in psychic investigations he tours never fail to entertain and inform.

Since he has left the area he has investigated places in Nevada and he is writing a new book on the ghosts of Carson City.  Recently a video he made won a Telly Award for the best documentry for the year 2004.   This is a unique chance and there are few tickets left for the tour, so book now.  For tickets contact the Phantom Bookshop in Ventura or e-mail  phantom@phantoms.com   you may also contact Mr. Senate at HaintHunter@aol.com

Fee for the tour is $25 per person or $45 per couple.  This is a three hour tour.

At her father's wake, a woman told her priest that ever since she was a
child she and her father had discussed life after death. They had agreed
that whoever went first would contact the other. They had discussed this
again just two weeks before his death.

He died in her home and, a few days after the wake, the smoke alarm in her
garage went off. She had lived there 28 years and it had never gone off
before.

She couldn't turn it off, so she called the security company that installed
it. The next morning the smoke alarm sounded again... and the reason finally
dawned on her. She said aloud, "Ok Dad, I missed the signal yesterday, but I
get it now! Thanks for letting me know that you are safe on the other side.
Now turn the thing off so I don't have to call the security company again."
And it turned off.

She immediately called her priest to tell him the good news. His response
was, "Dear lady, if every time your father sends you a message, he sets off
the smoke alarm, just where do you think he's calling from?"

Ghosts in bondage!

A while back a woman placed the ghost of her father on e-Bay. The ghost was linked to the cane the old man had owned before he passed over. The woman said that  the sale of the ghost (and cane) was so that her son would not be frightened about encountering the ghost of his grandfather in their family home. The sale of a ghost  got on the wire service and the numbers went higher and higher as one bid followed another. This was seen as a sort of joke because the secular and hard-headed editors of the main stream media do not believe in ghosts.  But, many Americans do, and this opens a whole new line of thought.  Is it ethical to sell your grandfathers ghost?  Maybe this sale is a terrible moral crime.  Maybe the ghost of the grandfather might have imparted some wisdom to his grandson? Maybe the ghost could have saved his grandson from some mishap, many have reported such things in the past.  Selling a ghost is a bit like selling an elderly parent and only acceptable to people who do not believe such things exist.    The idea that one can sell a ghost brings out the concept that ghosts "belong" to someone and can there for be traded on the open market.  I fear that  with the monetary success of this e-bay transaction more and more people will come forward with "ghosts for sale."  I believe that this will cause more harm than good and give fuel to the so- called skeptics and debunkers  who go out of their was to make ghost hunters and believe look like fools.

New Ghostly Project

Mr. Senate has embarked upon a new book project for 2005. This will be a collection of ghosts and haunted places in the Carson Valley of Nevada. These include the towns of Genoa, Minden and Gardnerville.  The book will include the haunted cemetery of Genoa, The Dake house ghost, the haunted barn, The haunted theater, the ghosts of the Carson Valley Museum and the haunted Logan Building. If you have any ghostly accounts of this area please feel free to contact  Senate via e-mail.

New Ghost Pilot Finished

After one full year in the making (has it been that long?)  the Ghoststalker-haunted adobe video is done. Made by Marshane productions of Oxnard this one hour documentary makes a strong case for the belief in ghosts. Much of the data  in the form of eyewitness accounts of those who saw ghosts at the Historic Olivas Adobe in Ventura, California.  The video includes photographs of ghostly forms taken at the adobe.  The video is now being shopped to the Discovery Channel and other cable networks.  The video was co-produced, written a  hosted by Richard Senate. It was a project he longed to do for the past five years.  The Olivas Adobe ghosts seemed more than happy to comply and strut there ectoplasm stuff before the witnesses and cameras. If this project sells Mr. Senate has more haunted house investigations planned in future months. If you would like to be a part of future projects let Mr. Senate know as soon as possible.

New Ghost Sighting in Virginia City

The snow covered streets of Virginia City have known the tread of millionaire, gunfighter and con-man over the last 160 years.  The ghost of Mark Twain is said to walk the streets he trod when he worked as a simple newspaperman here in the 1860s.  Many ghosts call this place home.

Perhaps one of the most persistent haunts is found at the bar of the Washoe Club.  It a man wearing a cowboy hat and black duster. As many historic re-enactors come to this living museum of a town such dress isn't that odd.  Also, many miners and real cowboys call this town home and their dress isn't that different from the clothing worn a century ago.  The ghostly cowboy sits quietly at the end of the bar. One legends says that when people buy him a drink he tips his hat to them and then drains the glass . After his libation he vanishes away.  The ghostly cowboy isn't content to just sit at the bar--sometimes, late at night, he likes to take a bit of a walk through town.

A local sheriff found himself assigned to duties at Virginia City. He thought this would be easy duty with just a few drunken tourists as diversion  in his long hours patrolling the historic district. He didn't believe in ghosts then. Late one night, about two AM, he saw a man walking down "C" Street. The man was wearing a cowboy hat and a long black duster. He assumed the man's car had broken down.  He pulled up to the walking man and asked if he could use some help with his car. The man didn't look at him of speak. The pale man just kept walking along the wooden sidewalk.  The deputy felt something was wrong. Maybe there was something wrong with the man, maybe he was suffering from some mental problem!   He drove up twenty feet and stopped the car. He got out to see what the story was about the odd man in the long coat. When he stopped the man had vanished.  He looked for him in the ditch, side streets but he had vanished.  It was the strangest thing he had ever seen.  The next day he told some of the locals about the vanishing man. They asked him to describe the fellow. When he did they agreed it was the phantom cowboy of the Washoe Club-just out for a stroll. The very next day the deputy put in for a transfer.

WOULD YOU BUY A PAGE FROM A HAUNTED BOOK?

In his many travels Mr. Senate has collected a museum of strange artifacts from all over the world from a brick that once was witness to the terrible last murder of Jack the Ripper in 1888 to ancient statues from an Egyptian tomb.  Perhaps the strangest artifact in his collection  is a book. It is without a cover and all printed in neat Spanish. The book was a gift to him from a padres at one of the California Missions.  The book is printed on rag paper and dates to 1810.  The book is also haunted.  Those who have borrowed to book tell of seeing a phantom padre in a gray robe wandering their home. Others tell of odd dreams of old California. One man dreamed of being a Native American ringing the bells, another dreamed of witnessing a bull fight.
People say that the book also causes things to happen. Things are moved about by unseen hands and pictures are moved from walls.  What ever haunts the book it seems to like religious things and will not touch them.  The haunted book has  moved by itself going from one box to another.

What is the cause of these strange happenings?  Mr. Senate had several psychics hold the book and they came away with several impressions.  One saw a pious monk linked to the book. This early missionary is still trying to convert the heathen peoples he encounters. Another saw a ghostly Native American woman who was the focus on a young padre's lust.  Still another saw murder and death.   After several months of reflection Mr. Senate has agreed to  take the book apart and sell each page of the book for those who would like the challenge of owning a haunted book. The page can be framed or used in experiments. All he asks is that your supernatural events linked to the book be forwarded to him. He also asks that the pages be handled reverently.  Each page will be sent with a document of authenticity and account of supernatural events.
Each page will be offered at a price of $19.94 cents.  For your part of the haunted book contact me at
HaintHunter@aol.com or The Phantom Bookshop  phantom@phantoms.com

TOURS WITH A GHOSTLY TWIST

New tours coming in the winter months.

HAUNTED ALCATRAZ.  The ghosts of Alcatraz Island have long been the focus of TV shows and books. Mr. Senate would like to offer a tour of the haunted Rock for all those in the bay area who would like his unique take on this most haunted place.  Yes, Mr. Senate saw a ghost there quite recently while taping a TV show for Discovery Channel.  The tour will include tips on seeing ghosts and how to feel their presence.

The former Federal Prison started out as a Civil War era fort and was used to house POWs from the Confederate Navy. In the 1930s it was turned into a prison for the worst of the worst prisoners in the federal system.  In those early years it was a horrific place where even talking could result in 19 days in the punishment cells. The place was closed in the 1960s, occupied by Native Americans and lastly opened as a museum.   Many believe it is the most haunted spot in the United States today.  The tour will start at pier 41 in San Francisco and take a boat to the former prison.  The tour will last two and a half hours.   The fee is $48 per-person. This includes trip to island, admission to prison site and hand out information.  Trips are planned for February 12, 2005.  New dates will be selected for March and April.   Please contact Mr. Senate at
HaintHunter@aol.com if you are interested in this tour and a chance to meet with, and work with one of the pioneers in psychic research in the United States.   The tours will start at 1:00 pm and  end at 3:30 pm.  It is encouraged to take cameras, tape recorders and dress warmly.  Alacatraz is a grim place but, it offers some of the best chances of seeing a ghost in the USA.

Richard Senate Officially Retires and Will Relocate to Carson City, Nevada.
Ghost hunting will never be the same in Ventura, CA, ever again without Richard Senate. "Look out" ghosts in Nevada. We want you to know, that this web site will continue, the base of origin will be from Ventura, and it will be probably better than ever the way we see it. Richard will return once in a while for a private tour or two, so stay tuned.

No small honor...
Richard has left his mark, literally engraved in bronze, in Ventura, CA.
This bronze plaque was made up to commemorate and honor Richard Senate for his years of invaluable service and loyalty to the people of Ventura and its City and was presented
by The City of Ventura. This artifact will be affixed into the adobe wall at the
Olivas Adobe Exhibit Hall
in Ventura, CA.

Richard Senate will now shortly be relocating, probably forever,  to Carson City, Nevada. Ventura, California's loss is Carson City's gain. As I told Richard today at his "farewell" party (including the Mayor of Ventura and many other notables) at Olivas Adobe in Ventura, CA..."You are Mr. Ventura..." The City of Ventura named a building in honor of Richard Senate at The Olivas Adobe. This is a pretty big deal as not many people get entire buildings named after them. Due to a lot of interest in internet radio these days, webmaster John Anthony Miller and myself decided to resurrect the old "Haunted Radio" internet broadcasting shows we did years ago with "GiveMeTalk Radio" which is no longer in service. We did manage to find the second broadcast that was done in 1999, and it is linked here. There will be more current ones listed.  (On the streaming audio, you will hear announcements by the software company...until we get some funds to purchase and register  the software, we will have to just keep the ads in the streaming audio.) We will be doing some CD and DVD projects as well as soon as we can find time. I had John move the older GhostBlogs to another page, just in case there are those of you interested in past history. I was also informed that this site seems to have the World's first "GhostBlog" -- which is just short for "Ghost Web Log"--maybe we should have called it Ghlog! Maybe we will. I am doing well here in Carson City, Nevada. I miss all my friends in California, but as Arnie says " I'll be back!" Keep logging into the site. Ventura tours will be coming. Meanwhile check out Janice's ghost site: Haunted Nevada - Richard Senate

p.s. Congratulations to Kyle and the new baby! Here is the link: I tried, but the links are all messed up! Her name is JASMINE and she has a link somewhere on www.growingfamily.com. The hospital is St. Francis, and the city is Indianapolis. If anyone finds the actual link, send it to my webmaster John Anthony Miller!

GHOSTBLOG DATE 11-29-04

Well, I am recovering somewhat. A bit depressed this last month for sure. Ventura is just not the same without Richard Senate in town. When my best friend moves to Carson City, Nevada even the ghosts are not too happy here. Anyway, Richard is with his family in cold Carson City where it is snowing and 10 degrees. Ventura does not know what snow looks like and it is certainly not 10 degrees here (although I did have to put a small heater in my orchid greenhouse tonight).

I made Richard sign a pact with me that he will return for some special ghost hunts in the upcoming months, so I will post this information in the newsletter and on the site. Lately,  Phantom Bookshop has been getting lots of phone calls for Richard Senate books and general inquiries about Richard. So here is his new e-mail address: HaintHunter@aol.com and be sure to give some time for his hands to thaw out while waiting for a response. I suspected as much as for the increased peak of interest. I have seen it happen a few times before in my sordid life: Famous Guy in town for many years. Take Mr. Famous Guy  for granted. Famous Guy moves out of town--oh no! We lost him! What did we have? Too late!

I produced a small token for Ventura folks (or any RS fan)  to remember Richard Senate by. It is a CD slide show, with music and text, with many  high resolution photos of his November 16, 2004 Farewell Party at the very haunted Olivas Adobe here in Ventura, CA. I have posted a smaller version on this site, but this CD has crisper photos and a caption page before each photo. There is also Mexican music on the CD as well, just like the cool Mexican band that played at his party. The CD is some kind of collectible in its own right. Also thrown in with the CD is his famous book of Historic Adobes of Ventura County. A photo:

NEW...Richard Senate Ghost Tours sponsored by Phantom Bookshop (for those who could not get into a City of Ventura sponsored ghost tour)

The Ventura City ghost tours conducted by Richard Senate have all been booked up for October and November. There was a large newspaper article in the Ventura Star about Richard and his relocation to Nevada, and that clinched the remaining spaces on the tours. However, I did manage to arrange TWO tours, to be privately conducted by Richard Senate sponsored as before by Phantom Bookshop. These will be the last Ventura ghost tours he will conduct before relocating permanently to Carson City, Nevada. There may be some future tours we will arrange at some future date, but nothing has been planned. Thank you, John Anthony Miller at Phantom Bookshop in Ventura.

For the Dead and Un-dead--
Tours for all of our earthbound souls and other fans of Richard Senate.

Two Special Tours of Haunted Ventura offered by ghost hunter Richard Senate.  These are new tours that will feature stories never told before. These are special to the Phantom Bookshop and Mr. Senate's many fans.  They will fill fast so make your reservations as soon as possible.
1.  The Haunted City---The Cursed City.  The mysterious history of Ventura California unfolds in this look into the dark under-belly of this popular beachside community. Here headless ghosts wander and un-punished crimes have bred a new breed of specter--a persistent, angry ghost who lusts after revenge and justice.  This tour will start at the Lobby of the Bella Maggorri Inn on California Street at 7:00 PM exactly. The tour will be two and a half hours long.  You may be asked to help Mr. Senate attempt spirit communications. All who take part must sign a waiver--Mr. Senate will not be held to account if any ghosts follow you home!
October 26--Tuesday night before Halloween.  Please sign up now as this will be a limited group. Fee $24. CALL Phantom Bookshop at 805-641-3844 for reservations.

2.   The Haunted City --Day of the Dead  The dead walk on this night--or so they say.   What better time to visit a cemetery?  Meeting Place-- Cemetery Park-- 7:00 pm. Don't be late--our ghostly friends do not like guests to be late!  The meeting place is the Corner of Main Street and Aliso Street , in Ventura at Memorial Park. Bring walking shoes as this will be a walk on the wild side.

Monday, November 1st. 7 PM until 10 PM  Three hour walk---Fee $26 per person.  This tour might well be too scary for young children under 12 and those with weak hearts.  A waiver will be signed by each member as Mr. Senate will not be held if you become a victim to an ancient curse or wandering vampire.  The tour will be close to a mile of easy walking.  You will know Mr. Senate because he will be the live person holding a lantern.  Call Phantom Bookshop for reservations

An Interview with Psychic and Medium James VanPraagh

Delaware's Headless Horseman
While many young men volunteered their services to the Patriot cause, only one brief battle during the American Revolution was fought on Delaware soil. Though the battle was relatively insignificant, it remains firmly etched in the consciousness of locals because of the engaging ghost story of the Headless Horseman that surrounds it.

Haunted Hollywood
The coordinator for historical programming for the city of Ventura, CA, a local historian, and the author of nine books, Richard Senate conducts tours of haunted Hollywood. Together with his psychic wife Debbie, Senate has made contact with a number of Hollywood’s most famous ghosts.

Richard Senate Health Update!

Richard did not need any major heart surgery after many tests and numerous doctor's visits. A procedure was used to go in through a upper major vein to correct a defective heart valve. For some reason a membrane of tissue that developed over time kept the valve from operating properly. This was serious enough though and Richard had to recover from this over a period of weeks. His breathing is pretty much back to normal and his energy is returning. He is getting stronger every day. He will be able to conduct some (perhaps all of the remaining) of his famous ghost tours this month and then it will be off to Carson City, Nevada to relocate. Now is your last chance to go on City of Ventura ghost tour with Richard Senate. There will be no more after October 2004. Information is on the link to the left.

Richard considers himself very fortunate. His doctors say he is very "lucky." Things could have turned out much worse. Also, Richard wants to thank all of you who have sent him cards and get well wishes. Seems like all your prayers worked! The "invisible world" is very powerful. More later. - John Anthony Miller

SPECIAL ANNOUNCEMENT!

Richard Senate to be having heart surgery.
by John Anthony Miller, owner of Phantom Bookshop, artist

Richard Senate entered the hospital Friday, September 24th for exploratory tests on his heart. This procedure determined, in part,  the extent of damage to his heart and the nature of future surgery. Apparently, one of his valves is failing and will need replacement.  He has told me that his condition (shortness of breath, no stamina and chest pains) is getting worse.

This is a difficult time for Mr. Senate and his family, and he will be forced to cancel many (if not all) of his Halloween Tours and plans.

"I just started to feel pains in my chest and a constant shortness of
breath," he recalls. "I knew I needed to see a doctor."  After many tests it was determined that he will need surgery.  Asked if he was afraid of major surgery, Richard Senate answered; "Hunting ghosts gives you nerves of steel."
(I should be so unnerved about all this. Guess hunting ghosts for so many years is responsible for this state of mind)

This will be a difficult time for Mr. Senate and we are asking you to send your positive thoughts, prayers, and good wishes his way during this ordeal.

He will be undergoing surgery in Ventura, California in the very near future. He will be having another battery of heart tests this Wednesday, the 29th of September.

You can send your letters and cards to:

Richard Senate
c/o Phantom Bookshop
2989 Foothill Road
Ventura, CA 93003.

I will give each and every letter and card that you send to him personally.

He would love to hear from you, especially now in this time of change, financial and emotional burden and uncertain physical outcome. As of this morning when I talked to him, he was still  very tired and resting from his last test and having some difficulty breathing. Keep Richard in your prayers, please!
One of the pioneers of psychic research in the United States, Mr. Richard
Senate has been involved in ghost hunting for the last 22 years. he was the first to use the internet in this study and has worked with some of the best known names in the field including, Dr. Thelma Moss. He has done work for major film studios as well as TV production companies.  For a time he had a small TV cable program called "Ghost Hunters" that interviewed such well know figures as Hans Holzer, Dr. Kenny Kingston, and the late D. Scott Rogo.

[Note: As best as I could research, I believe he was the first ghost hunter in California to do "ghost tours."  I do know that he was definitely doing these tours before they became common like they are now. It looks like the last week's private tour sponsored by Phantom Bookshop, the Ghost Tour of Ventura's  Haunted Hotels was the last 2004 Richard Senate ghost tour (private or public with the City of Ventura).  The City of Ventura's October 2004  Halloween ghost tours will most likely all be cancelled from what it looks like now.]

He is the author of numerous books on the paranormal and is currently working on a book to be titled "The Legends of the Heritage Valley."   In many ways he tries to keep a scientific approach to the subject of ghosts and haunted houses. One psychic called him "a believer who tries hard not to believe."  He is still searching for the truth about this topic as he has been since that summer night in 1978 that he encountered a ghostly monk at the old Spanish Mission of San Antonio de Padua.  Let us hope he can continue his life's work.

Updates will appear in the next GhostWatch Newsletter as well as this website.

GhostWatch Newsletter was sent out. You may go to our archived site to read it (link at left) or subscribe (link at left).

New Richard Senate Tour Information posted (link at left). Richard will be relocating to Carson City, Nevada probably in November and will not be conducting any more tours in this area. There are a number of them listed in the Tours page (link at left), so this will be your last chance to go on one of these legendary tours by Richard Senate, if you have not done so. Keep in mind that Richard Senate started all this ghost tour stuff way before the rest of the nation followed the trend. Richard was a true original pioneer in this area, and would not it be nice to say that you actually went on one of these tours if someone asked you in the future? Besides that, those of you who have been on his tours know what kind of results can be seen and felt. Not Hollywood, just a Richard Senate Ghost Tour.

Books by Richard Senate have been added to the "Books" link at the left. There is a click on button to order a book. Ghost Stalkers Guide To Haunted California is out of print, we have a few copies left, and you might consider getting a fresh, unmarred copy here while we have a few. This is a good book on the subject, many consider the best book on the subject.

Ghost Hunting 101

A class in the new science of Phantomology by Richard Senate
By Ms. April John

This E-Class is designed to instruct anyone who has an interest in the subject of ghosts and haunted houses. It is based upon Mr. Senate’s 22 years of investigations at haunted sites all over the world. The class is made up of readings, experiences and hands on activities. There is a reading list as well as a movie list to see (many you have seen over the years I am sure). There are also worksheets with each lesion that Mr. Senate will review as well as essays. In the end, if you measure up to Mr. Senate’s standards, you will be awarded a certificate as a Ghost Hunter/Psychic Researcher.

There are 13 lessons to master. This isn’t a give away class. It will take both time and commitment on your part. If you wish to carry on you will be entering into a world that is on the cutting edge of investigation. Psychic Research, as Sir Arthur Conan Doyle observed, is the last great adventure open to mankind. It isn’t a study to take lightly; there are dangers and few rewards. But, it is a journey into an uncharted land and one that changes everyone who embarks upon this path. You will not be the same person at its end. Mr. Senate has assembled a set of lesson plans and tasks that will take up to the very limits of your beliefs and assumptions. If you are set in your ways, if you do not wish to be challenged, then turn away from this class. If you want excitement beyond your imagination-keep reading and sign up for GHOST HUNTING 101-Phantomology the birth of a new science.

A personal message from the founder of the Phantomological Institute.

Ghosts have been with mankind for thousands of years but we are still in the dark about their true nature. Only in the late 19th Century did science begin to study reports of apparitions and ghosts. I want to welcome you to the world of ghost hunting. It is a journey of discovery that I believe will open your mind to the many possibilities that exist all around us. Many start this path, not everyone will finish. But, if you are dedicated and study my lessons you may well be rewarded with experiences others only dream about. You will see and hear things enjoyed by others only in special effects dominated films. It will be your duty to carry on the work-to advance the study well into the Twenty-first Century. I bid you welcome and Happy Hauntings!”

Professor Richard L. Senate

The Class will start when you send in your check or money order to The Phantom Bookshop. The fee is 25 dollars. Books and other tools (mostly inexpensive) are the responsibility of the student. When you enroll you will begin class at the next day. Lessons will be e-mailed to you. All papers will be graded by Mr. Senate himself. He doesn’t grade on a curve. Extra Credit is assigned if papers do not meet his high standards. He can be reached for questions at set times only-these will be provided to you upon enrollment in the institute.

Lessons.

2. Tools, Books and Tasks -The Essay Test

An open letter of apology to Ms. Corinna Renteria and Venturahaunts:

It has been brought to my attention that no credit was previously given to the great ghost head photo at the Current Ghost Sighting Link

An appreciative line of credit goes to Ms. Corinna Renteria of Venturahaunts (their link is on the links page). This omission has now been corrected on the Current Ghost Sightings Page.

This omission was merely an oversight of the Blogmaster John Anthony Millert, not Richard Senate's. He leaves the website up to me to post. Also, as I was not there at the time of the recording of the ghost head. All I did was try to give my interpretation of the photo with Richard Senate---my main focus was to interpret and then write text for the web site.

The implication in an e-mail I received late Feb. 9th, 2004 indicated that Richard Senate and myself intended to "discredit" the involvement of Venturahaunts, as follows:

'But in your column on your site concerning the face in the window, it clearly shows that you want to discredit any involvement of Venturahaunts in this column...'and that 'Corinna Renteria thought you would be grateful that she lent you her camera. You even went as far as saying it was your camera in this part of your column.'

It was never my, nor especially, Richard Senate's intention, to discredit any group or individual. The omission was entirely an oversight of an overworked Blogger and for this I offer this open apology. The the lack of credits given was entirely my responsibility.-John Anthony Miller
